What is ADHD Coaching?

ADHD Coaching Approach

  • Coaching is a collaborative approach - meaning I work with you or your family to problem solve challenge spots.
  • ADHD coaching differs from other forms of support as it focuses on problem solving through an ADHD lens.
  • Coaching is a unique approach as it empowers you or your family, by increasing knowledge and building self awareness around how ADHD manifests and then developing supports and systems to help you or your family move forward in a different way!
  • Coaching can be transformative - but it is up to you or your family - you or your family will have to work to get results and commit to trying new things and building new habits - change takes time, experimentation and practice!

What can ADHD Coaching Help with?

Common Challenges I've helped with:

  • Executive Functions (working memory, organization, time management, planning and prioritizing).
  • Catastrophizing and rumination.
  • Procrastinating, task initiation and completion.
  • Emotional self-regulation aka "bad temper".
  • Overwhelm.
  • Hyper sensitive to critique.
  • ADHD education.
  • Teaching ADHD parenting techniques.
  • Skill development planning (packing backpacks, doing laundry, hygiene).
  • School support.

I've worked with large corporate teams and small businesses to help address challenges that arise in the workplace related to ADHD such as:

ADHD Coaching Framework

ADHD Coaching fosters growth and self-awareness to implement change. There are three broad steps in this process:  

1. Identifying Obstacles

Through self discovery with an ADHD lens we explore the obstacles that are holding you back.

2. Fostering & Building Self Awareness

Having ADHD can be very challenging and at times painful. Developing self awareness around how our ADHD manifests is key for managing it!

3. Building an Action Plan

Together we build an action plan based on You, helping to manage your ADHD, navigate obstacles and move forward!

HOW DO 1:1, FAMILY, AND PARENTING COACHING DIFFER?

ADHD Coaching Models

  • I provide three different models of coaching: 1:1, family and parent.
  • 1:1 coaching is working with one person - this is available for preteens, teens and adults.
  • Family coaching works with the family unit, which typically includes 1 or more parent/guardian and 1 or more child (of any age).
  • Parent coaching works with the parent(s) only.

How Do I Know What Format is Best for Me?

  • If it's just you that would like help then 1:1 Coaching is for you!
  • Support for your family can be either parent or family coaching or a combination of both.  Which format is the best fit depends on a few factors: the age of your child, your child's willingness to be coached, and the topics being covered. In these situations we discuss the options and determine the best approach to start.
  • What if we start with family coaching and move to a combination of all three? That's ok! And this happens often! For example your child may not feel comfortable working with me initially so we may start with family coaching and then switch to parent coaching and 1:1 coaching, and we may move back to family coaching if the problem requires a collaborative approach.
  • ADHD Coaching formats are flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of your family.
